Winning In Real Estate Negotiations
This is a tip for both buyers and sellers. Sooner or later, you’re going to enter into an offer/counter-offer negotiation on a piece of property. In the ideal situation, both parties will get what they want. In truth, one party will be a bit of a loser while the other is a bit of a winner. The problem is the losing party doesn’t have a clue it has lost for weeks or maybe even months. The winning party, on the other hand, knows immediately that it has won. What is the difference between them? The number one factor in winning at negotiations is to know what you want before hand. Most people get caught up in the excitement and never actually define this. Don’t make this mistake. How can you meet your goals if you haven’t defined them! You can’t. Have a very black and white idea of what you want to achieve and negotiate for nothing less. If you find yourself compromising, it is time to walk away.
