The True Mortgage Payment
If you are buying a home for the first time, one of the errors you can make is assuming the monthly payment on their mortgage loan is the full amount you have to come up with. This is natural since you are used to making a monthly rent payment that covers everything. Owning a home is a bit different. Keep in mind you are going to have to pay additional costs which can be significant. If you put less than 20 percent down on the home, you are going to have to pay private mortgage insurance. You are also going to have pay property taxes. Throw in home insurance to cover fires and such and your assumed mortgage monthly payment can be woefully short of what you are really going to have to come up with.
