Mortgage Industry Predictions for 2008

A new year is upon us, which means we need to gaze into that fuzzy future known as the 2008 year. What will happen? What can we expect? Well, many things will occur that we could never predict, but the mortgage industry seems to be on a fairly predictable path forward. After a rocky 2007, we can expect more of the same in 2008. Hybrid and adjustable rate mortgages will continue to reset and that will put people in financial straights leading to unfortunate events such as foreclosures. Given this increased risk, the financial markets will not be very excited about investing in mortgage securities. In short, the credit crunch will continue. So, is all gloom and doom? Nope. By the end of 2008, we should be seeing the mortgage industry returning to a more stable footing. The worst will be over and 2009 will look like a golden year indeed.
