Most of these emails are not from mortgage companies or anyone even trying to sell a mortgage. Instead, they are from people trying to get your personal financial information for identity theft purposes. They usually ask you to fill out a mortgage application form that looks “official”. In truth, it is just a form they use to collect your information including your social security number, birth date, address, legal name, bank account numbers and so on.
