If you already own a home and are considering a new purchase, paying your bills to protect your credit is still important. The key is paying the bills on time. Nothing hurts your credit rating more than failing to do so. If you have a rough few months and are unable to pay all your bills, make absolutely sure that you make your mortgage payment at a minimum. It will show lenders you take your debt seriously.
