Lender Approval First 

If you want to buy a home, meet with a lender first.  Encourage the lender to pull your credit information and provide you with a "lender letter" stating that you are qualified for the needed amount.  It's also good to understand the types of loans that might work for you, repayment amounts, and so on before you find your dream home and get emotional.  Knowing what you can afford and looking in the right price range from the beginning makes the process a lot more simple and satisfying.
