Inspect and Fix Scam
With the unfortunate fires in Southern California raging, we need to discuss one of the scams that often arises when many houses are damaged. It’s the inspect and fix scam. Unscrupulous contractors will come knocking on doors offering a cheap inspection of your home to see if there is any damage. Guess what? Yep, they find damage and it is going to be expensive to fix it. Never deal with a contractor that just walks up to your house. Get a referral from friends or family. Another way to avoid the problem is always use one contractor for the inspection and another for the repairs. Don’t ask the inspecting contractor for a referral to another inspector or you’ll still have the same problem.
