Handling Buyer Fishing Expeditions
You want to sell your home and you're approached by a buyer who asks you if you would consider accepting a lower price, leaving all the window treatments to convey with the house, get out in fifteen days, etc. How do you respond to such a fishing expedition?
Tell the buyer that you have some flexibility but you do want to get a fair price for your home. Tell him that, if he'll put his offer in writing, you'll consider each point carefully and respond. Getting every offer in writing is important. Most states require real estate contracts to be in writing to be enforceable. The buyer invests time and thought in the process of committing his offer to paper. When you receive his written offer, you know ALL the items the buyer is trying to "nibble" from you.
