Fluctuating Deposit Amounts 

We recently got a call from a seller who was concerned because he'd accepted a contract offer that provided for a $1,000 earnest money deposit.  He was afraid the deposit wasn't large enough because an article on our site recommends larger deposits.  Typical deposit amounts go up and down just like prices.  While they still tend to be higher for higher priced properties, a $1,000 deposit is not unreasonable for a middle-market, single family home in his area, his buyer was pre-approved by a lender, and the contract provided for no home inspections.  Taken in toto, it sounded like he'd accepted a darned decent offer in the current market.  Don't get too caught up.  Keep your eye on the big picture.
