Fixer Upper Caution

You're thinking of buying a "fixer upper."  You figure you can get more house for your money that way.  You're right, but you need to be careful.  Writing a contract offer which makes settlement subject to a satisfactory (to you) inspection by a professional home inspector is a good idea.  Make sure there aren't any problems you aren't willing to deal with.  Most of us can wield a paint brush and refinish floors.  Fewer of us can deal with plumbing, electrical, or roofing problems.  Hiring someone to handle them can be expensive, so find out what you're dealing with before you're fully committed.
