When it comes time to get a mortgage, most people immediately think of the bank where they do their checking and such. Is this a smart move? On the rare occasion, it may be. For the most part, it is not. Retail banks rarely offer the best rates on loans. Ah, but what about your personal relationship with them? Sorry, mortgages are done on a straight calculation. If you have poor credit, your bank is no more likely to loan you money than another lender. The opposite is true as well.
