"Don Dixon was a dream to work with. He listened carefully and made notes.
"Don did not say anything couldn't be done. Occasionally, when it was priced out, my husband and I decided we could live without some coveted feature, but it wasn't because Don couldn't handle it.
"Several of the things we really wanted were a 'royal pain,' but Don did them anyway. He never lost his patience though I'm sure he must have been tempted a time or two.
"A few (very few) errors were made during the course of construction. Don did not argue with us one time. Instead, he'd say, 'Yes, that's what the plans call for. We'll get it fixed tomorrow.' And he did. Cheerfully and fast.
"Sometimes Don would notice a mistake or imperfection before we did, and the first thing we knew about it was seeing the correction in progress.
"All the sub-contractors Don used were skillful, and all but one were very pleasant to deal with. (One slightly cranky sub didn't spoil the barrel.)
"Mike Meadows and his team who did the kitchen cabinets, built-in bookcases, built-in file cabinets, and built-in computer desk are artisans and really nice people into the bargan.
"Don and his right hand person, Jeff, built the mantle and overmantle in the living room. It's a copy of the one we had in our old home in Fredericksburg, and I'm especially pleased with it.
"Don's wife, Shannon, keeps things ship shape in the office. I was very concerned with our building budget and watched the figures like a hawk. Bless her. Shannon's figures always agreed with mine. There were no surprises.
"As I write this, we've lived in the house a year. There are no nail pops. Mitered corners still meet as they should. In addition, we still like, respect, and enjoy both Don and Shannon Dixon. You couldn't find better people to help you with your building project."
